We have been involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Cancer Relay For Life, and many more organizations throughout the San Diego area.

What's it about?

Big Brothers Big Sisters and VAVi have teamed up to recruit men to become Big Brothers to the youth of San Diego County. |

Details
|
If you are over 18, you can volunteer in one of the following two programs:
The Community-Based Mentoring Program, where you meet with your Little Brother just 2-4 times a month and do activities you both enjoy in the community, like going to the beach or watching a baseball game.
OR
The School-Based Mentoring Program, which is just one hour a week at the child's elementary school, after the school day has ended. This is your chance to be a kid again (remember recess?!)

Why we need you...
|
At this time the need is especially great for men to serve as Big Brothers. About 70% of the kids currently waiting for a ‘”Big” are male, but only 30% of our volunteer inquiries come from men. On average, a boy will end up waiting more than 33% longer for a “Big” than a girl. Throughout the county boys and young men are looking for someone to have fun with, and by sharing a friendship with a child through time spent simply playing catch or going on a hike can help a child avoid negative behaviors and succeed in life.
It is just a one-year commitment, with flexible hours to fit your schedule.
Remember, you don't have to find more time in your schedule to be a "Big", just put more fun in the time you have!

| Kids' Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup |

I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD) is organizing an Ocean Day Kids' Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup event at Oceanside City Beach. We are seeking volunteers to assist with this exciting event! |

Details
|
At the event, kids will participate in a beach cleanup and create an aerial art formation (example pictured below). ILACSD is seeking 75+ volunteers to help set-up and provide supervision of the 1,000+ children expected to attend. Volunteers will be needed from 7:30AM to 1:00PM; the actual event is from 9:00AM to 12:00PM. |

* Aerial Art Team: (6 volunteers)
* Bus Greeters: (2 volunteers)
* Presenters: (9 volunteers)
* Safety Leaders: (5 volunteers)
* Border Patrol: (5 volunteers)
* Roamers: (10-15 volunteers)
* Photographer: (1 aerial art photographer, 2 photographers on the ground)
* Trash/ Recyclables Monitor: (6 volunteers)
* Aerial Art Leaders: (7 volunteers for the letters, 2 volunteers for the picture)

VAVi is happy to partner with My Fight With Fat. MY FIGHT WITH FAT was created to help people re-gain their confidence, motivation, self-esteem and power needed to LOVE THEMSELVES and win their own “FIGHT WITH FAT”. MFWF believe that we have an obligation to ourselves (Love Yourself) and to our loved ones to FIGHT THE FIGHT WITH FAT & Obesity and prevent the top leading KILLING diseases associated with FAT such as Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol and Diabetes. |

Want to volunteer? Looking for something fun and easy? Join Volunteer San Diego and VAVi in a week-long, all out, community service blitz – Hands On San Diego. Hands On San Diego is Volunteer San Diego’s annual event that mobilizes thousands from companies, clubs and other community groups to help their communities. Last year, volunteers completed 100 projects benefiting 40 diverse community organizations throughout San Diego County. |
